The name Vergenoegd is derived from the Dutch word meaning “Satisfaction has been achieved”. Vergenoegd, one of the oldest wine estates in the Cape dates back to 1696. The Faure family has been farming the estate and making exceptional wines for 6 generations.
Vergenoegd wines are renown for their consistency and are recognized both domestically and internationally as some of the very finest wines produced in South Africa.
Wine making style: “Old World style meets New World”
We currently have just 20 cases x 6 of the exceptional 2000 Vintage Merlot.

Planted on more alluvial soils along the Eerste River, these vines grow well.
Trellising:
They are trellised on a four wire hedge trellis system and are pruned back to two eye spurs. To restrict yield and promote light penetration for better color, we practice an extensive summer pruning program
Nose:
Aromas of violets and berry fruit with slight chocolate mintiness and dusty oak
Palate:
The palate offers a rich, weighty plum fruit
Overall Impression:
Deep, plum color with fresh, lively plum hues.
Aging Process:
18-22 months in a combination of barrels 83% French, 12% Russian and 5% American 300 liter Oak barrel 1st Fill 53% 2nd Fill 47%
